Introduction to The ERP Bloke

ERP gets a bad rap because of all the poor implementations there have ever been – and there have been thousands. But ERP software just does what it is told to do; it is how it is configured and operated which often leads to problems, and those are factors entirely separate from the software itself.

Implementing ERP isn’t rocket surgery, but it is a complex and multi-threaded endeavour which does not respond well to being run by people who are learning on the job through trial and error.

Over more than two decades of working on ERP projects, I have been involved in hundreds of individual company implementations, and I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. Recently I took a step back from the coalface, and I now have the time to document what I have learned.

My mission is to bring the clarity of plain English to the practice of ERP implementation.

My LinkedIn newsletter “The Root Cause of Success” refers to the earliest decision a CxO will have to make at the very start of an ERP implementation – Decision Zero – which will lead to all the future decisions made by everyone else involved, and be the ultimate reason behind an implementation’s success.

If you are a CxO who is new to implementing ERP, you will probably fear that you don’t know what you don’t know. How can you make Decision Zero in that frame of mind? Read my articles to give you a fighting chance of getting it right at the first attempt and saving your organisation a good deal of time and money.

The ideas and opinions in this article are my own; other opinions and methodologies are available.
